Adoption Process
Thank you for considering adopting from Edson Animal Rescue Society (EARS). Our adoption process is designed to ensure that every animal finds a loving, permanent home.
Read on to learn more about how it works.
1. Apply To Adopt
Start by filling out an Adoption Application (below). This form does not commit you to adopting the animal but helps us understand your preferences and ensure a good match.
2. Application Review
Our team will review your application and get back to you within 3-5 days. As we are volunteer-run, we appreciate your patience.
3. Meet and Greet
If your application is approved, we will connect you with the foster family to arrange a "meet and greet." This step is required for dogs but may be optional for cats.
4. Finalize Adoption
If everyone agrees (EARS adoption committee, foster family, and prospective adopter), you can take your new pet home the same day or arrange a convenient time with the foster family.
Adoption Fees
Adoption fees help us cover the costs of veterinary care and allow us to continue our rescue efforts. All EARS adoptable animals are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up to date on age-appropriate vaccines.
Cats & Kittens:
Kittens (12 months old and under): $200
Kittens with FVR*: $100
Cats (over 12 months old): $150
Barn Buddies: By donation
Dogs & Puppies:
Small dogs and puppies (under 8 months): $400
Adult dogs (8 months to 8 years): $350
Senior dogs (over 8 years, excluding small dogs): $250
*FVR (feline viral rhinopneumonitis) is a contagious upper respiratory infection in cats. It is lifelong but often symptom-free, with flare-ups typically associated with stress and manageable with antiviral medications and lysine treats. Cats with FVR are best suited to cat-free, low-stress homes.
Foster to Adopt (FTA) Program
The Foster to Adopt program is for young animals not yet ready for spay/neuter or animals with health/behavior issues not cleared for adoption. This program allows these pets to live in their future adoptive homes while still under EARS’ guardianship. The FTA program is not a trial period but a commitment to adoption. Once the pet is ready (age or health-wise), EARS will finalize the adoption after the spay/neuter procedure.
